We Don't Talk About Apple Bottom Jeans is a viral music video parody of the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the 2021 Disney animated movie Encanto where Camilo sings the lyrics to Flo-Rida's "Low" to the tune of the song. The parody, inspired by a tweet, was uploaded to YouTube by Sawtooth Memes in January 2022 and caught the attention of YouTube's algorithm, making the video go viral on the platform's home page. The song inspired further parodies of "We Don't Talk About Bruno," most notably on YouTube and TikTok. The parody is similar to Apple Bottom Jeans Covers, which were popularized in 2021.

Origin

On January 5th, 2022, Twitter^[1] user @kailozerr posted, "SAVE ME I JUST SAID 'seven foot frame--' AND MY DAD RESPONDED WITH 'BOOTS WITH THE FUR,'" "seven foot frame" being a lyric from "We Don't Talk About Bruno" and "boots with the fur" a lyric from Flo Rida's "Low," gaining over 64,700 likes and 5,600 likes in three weeks. On January 6th, the same user posted a video to Twitter^[2] setting "Low" to the scene, gaining over 4,900 likes and 1,000 retweets in the same span of time (shown below). It was also uploaded to YouTube,^[3] gaining over 1.3 million views.

On January 7, YouTuber Sawtooth Memes uploaded a video called "We Don't Talk About Apple Bottom Jeans," a parody of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" where the character Camilo sings the lyrics to Flo Rida's "Low" instead of the intended lyrics. The parody is notably well-done, with Camilo's voice sounding nearly identical to the original. The video gained over 14 million views in three weeks (shown below). It now has over 30 million views.

The parody was uploaded to TikTok^[4] on January 11th, 2022, where the original sound became popularized in a variety of videos (examples shown below, left and right).

The parody inspired a number of additional parodies and remixes of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" that month. On January 12th, YouTuber Northflowo posted a version of the video where Camilo says "rats" a lot, gaining over 6.6 million views in two weeks (shown below).

On January 16th, YouTuber Dyl_ Paints uploaded his own version of the video singing the lyrics using his own voice. The video gained over 37,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

On January 23, YouTuber MediExcalibur2012 uploaded a Team Fortress 2 parody of the video called "We Don't Talk About Pyro". The video gained over 1 million views in less than a week (shown below).
