Terrence Howard's Mayne refers to a series of photoshopped images and image macros of actor Terrence Howard's face super-imposed on the bodies of fictional characters and inserting the word "mayne" into the caption. The word "mayne" is a reference to Howard's pronunciation of the word "man" in the film Hustle & Flow.

Origin

On December 7th, 2017, Twitter [1] user @FlowsAnolini tweeted, "Someone Photoshop Terrence Howard as a Jedi." The post (shown below, left) received more than 80 retweets and 200 likes in two days. Shortly after, Twitter[2] user @ChuckDSays responded with Howard's face photoshopped onto the body of Jedi Luke Skywalker.

Shortly after the post was made, people began captioning the picture with references to Terrence Howard's performance and accent, particularly from the film Hustle and Flow. Twitter[3] user @SMyart09 tweeted, "The Sith ain't messin wit this here force mayne." Within 24 hours, the post (shown below, left) received more than 400 retweets and 800 likes. Twitter[4] user @SuckaFreeTee tweeted, "“Y’all swinging lightsabers, mayne?” The post (shown below, center) received more than 1,300 retweets and 1,700 likes in 24 hours. Twitter[5] user @xPhenomenal1 tweeted, "Aye mayne, Rae mayne, that nigga Darf Vada my daddy mayne." The post (shown below, right) received more than 1,300 retweets and 1,600 likes in 24 hours.

Additionally, people began photoshopping Howard's face onto characters from Game of Thrones. Twitter[6] user @sagemyster photoshopped Howard's face onto that of the character of Jon Snow with the caption "maybe I ain't bendin no damn knee mayne." The tweet (shown below) received more than 2,000 retweets and 2,600 likes in two days.

On December 8th, Twitter[7] published a Moments page to archive the popularity of the meme.

Over the next few days, people began branching outside of the Jedi memes to encompass all areas of popular culture. On December 8th, Twitter[8] user @AhdriTorrez tweeted a picture of Howard's face over Elsa from the Disney film Frozen. They captioned the tweet, "Do you wanna build a snow mayne?" The post (shown below, left) received more than 13,000 retweets and 19,000 likes in three days. Twitter[9] user @BbellTheSensei tweeted Howard's face over Jigsaw from Saw with the caption “Say Mayne, you wanna Play a game Mayne?” The post (shown below, center) received more than 9,000 retweets and 12,000 likes in two days.

The following day, Twitter[10] user @JUSLIKEMIKE863 tweeted his face over the recording artist SZA with the caption "My mayne is my mayne is your mayne Her this her mayne too," parodying her song. The film (shown below, right) received more than

Terrence Howard's Response

On December 10th, actor Terrence Howard responded to the meme in a video on Twitter.[10] In the video, he tells people online that they missed specific memes, such as "Iron Mayne" and other films featuring Howard with the word "man" in the title. The tweet (shown below) 27,000 retweets and 47,000 likes in 24 hours.
