Shivering Dog also known as Chattering Teeth Dog refers to a video of a dog, named Salty, chattering her teeth as if she is cold or scared. The original video was uploaded on Instagram in 2018. Three years later, a video was uploaded to YouTube adding a chattering teeth sound effect. A trend started to become popular on TikTok around August 2021 where the dog is used as a Dog Cringe Reaction to cringeworthy memes.

Origin

On June 18th, 2021, Instagram^[1] user thesaltyhound posted a video of their dog named Salty continuously shattering her teeth, gaining over 172,000 views in two years (shown below), gaining signifigant popularity. Twelve days later on June 30th, it was shared to Facebook] by UNILAD, gaining over 82,000 reactions and 23,000 shares in two years.

On July 14th, 2021, YouTuber^[3] mason uploaded a version but added a shivering teeth sound effect to the dog, the video gained over 292,000 views in four months (shown below).

Spread

On August 13th, the video of the dog with the chattering sound effect was posted to TikTok,^[3] gaining over 185,000 views in six months. The video became a popular reaction to cringe content on TikTok that year, often attached to the end of videos where someone makes a threat that falls flat as a reaction of feigned fear (examples shown below).
