Microplastics Found in Testicles refers to a scientific study that found microplastics in 100 percent of human testicles tested in the experiment. Published and reported in May 2024, the study went viral on X / Twitter, inspiring various memes and jokes online.


On May 15th, 2024, a group of researchers from the University of New Mexico published a study[1] on microplastic presence in dogs and human testis. The study discovered the presence of microplastics in all 47 canine and 23 human tissue samples tested, with the mean amount of microplastics found being 328 micrograms in human samples.

On May 20th, The Guardian,[2] Daily Mail[3] and other websites reported on the study. Also on May 20th, the X[4] / Twitter news account @TheInsiderPaper made a post about the study that received over 6,300 reposts and 11,000 likes in one day (shown below). The post later received a community note clarifying that the sample size was 23 humans.

Starting on May 20th, 2024, the study became a subject of jokes and memes on X / Twitter. On that day, X[5] user @AltHistCody quoted @TheInsiderPaper's tweet, commenting, "WE GOT GREAT FILTERED ITS OVER." The post (shown below) gained over 1,300 reposts and 29,000 likes in one day.

More memes, including image captions, were shared on X / Twitter in the following hours. On May 20th, Derek Guy made a BOFA joke that received over 620 reposts and 6,400 likes on X[6] in one day (shown below, left). On May 21st, X[7] user @littleeerik posted a Rich Men North of Richmond meme that gained over 380 reposts and 6,900 likes in one day (shown below, right).
