On May 15th, 2024, a group of researchers from the University of New Mexico published a study^[1] on microplastic presence in dogs and human testis. The study discovered the presence of microplastics in all 47 canine and 23 human tissue samples tested, with the mean amount of microplastics found being 328 micrograms in human samples.

On May 20th, The Guardian,^[2] Daily Mail^[3] and other websites reported on the study. Also on May 20th, the X^[4] / Twitter news account @TheInsiderPaper made a post about the study that received over 6,300 reposts and 11,000 likes in one day (shown below). The post later received a community note clarifying that the sample size was 23 humans.
