German Cola Kid refers to a viral video of a kid exclaiming in German that his mother let him play Fortnite and drink Coca-Cola, exclaiming "YIPPEE!" The video has been a source of copypasta, as well as a source of fan videos.

Origin

The earliest known upload of the the "German Cola Kid's" "YIPEE!" video is a December 16th, 2020 upload to YouTube^[1] video titled, " coca cola and fortnite youpiiii." The post gathered over 160,000 views in four years (seen below).

A high-quality reupload of the video was posted by a Tiktok user named user48ljp0pz0o on December 15th, 2021 (shown below), receiving over 5 million views.

The video features a child, who stays offscreen, speaking the following in German:

Mein Gott Leute, meine Mama hat mir einfach erlaubt dass ich Cola trinken darf! Wie cool ist das bitte? Jetzt zocke ich Fortnite und trinke Cola! YIPPEE!

When translated to English, the dialogue is as follows:

My god, people! My mom just let me drink cola! How cool is that? Now I'm playing Fortnite and drinking cola! YIPPEE!

Spread

The video began spreading in 2021 on various social media channels, inspiring parodies and fan animations. For example, on July 6th, 2021, YouTuber Alison posted an animation that gained over 40,000 views in one year (shown below, left). On December 19th, YouTuber Brinnmations posted an animation that gained over 8,400 views in six months (shown below, right).

Additionally, some YouTubers took to dubbing the video in various languages. On December 19th, 2020, YouTuber chovythebear posted an English dub of the video, gaining over 105,000 views in 18 months (shown below, left). On June 6th, 2022, YouTuber Mikaya_VT posted a Vietnamese dub, gaining over 7,000 views in three weeks (shown below, right).
