Full of Soup Cat

Full of Soup Cat refers to an image of a kitten with a large belly being held with one arm upright, captioned "Full of soup" with an arrow pointing at its swollen stomach. Starting in February 2022, the image has been used as source material for exploitable image macro memes, being humorously edited and captioned with the Full of X phrasal template.

Origin

The exact origin of the first Full of Soup cat image is unknown, but the earliest discovered repost containing the image was made by Tumblr^[1] user cncity on August 2nd, 2021 (shown below).

On January 13th, 2022, Twitter^[2] user @paintingofbluee reposted the image, with the post gaining over 10,100 retweets and 65,800 likes in two months. On January 17th, 2022, the gimmick Twitter account Animals with Captions^[3] (@AnimalsCaptions) posted another photograph of the cat captioned with the phrase, gaining over 570 retweets and 2,700 likes in two months, with this version later becoming the default template for the future format (shown below, left; full photograph shown below, right).

Spread

Prior to February 15th, 2022, during the peak virality of the I Love Lean!!! meme, an unknown user posted a purple-tinted version of the image recaptioned "Full of Lean" (shown below, left) with the meme proceeding to go viral on social media. For example, on February 15th, 2022, Twitter^[4] account @postedbyafeline reposted the image, with the post gaining over 560 retweets and 3,900 likes in one month. On February 18th, 2022, Twitter^[5] account Animals with Captions recaptioned a Leanposting meme previously posted in the apandiscord Discord^[6] server, with the post gaining over 420 retweets and 2,400 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On March 4th, 2022, Twitter^[7] account @CatTikToks tweeted a Full of X meme referencing He Ate 71 Pounds of Sand and Died meme that gained over 400 retweets and 2,100 likes in two weeks (shown below).

In mid-March, more memes based on images of cats combined with the Full of X phrasal template were posted online, primarily on Twitter.
