Don't Disrespect Me Like That is a series of reaction image macros of an an African American boy saying, "Don't disrespect me like that." The meme is used, typically, as the punchline to a joke about being humiliated or made to feel less than by a friend or authority figure.

Origin

On August 15th, 2016, Instagram ^[1] user @uncle_naa uploaded a video of a man in a car mocking the haircut of a boy on the street. After a brief confrontation, the boy says to the man, "Don't disrespect me like that, dog." Within two years, the post (shown below) received more than 6,300 likes and 60,500 views.

That day, the video was shared on Twitter ^[2] by user @PatRileyBG, receiving more than 43,000 retweets, 43,000 likes and 2.3 million views as of July 2018.

Weeks later, on September 3rd, Twitter^[3] user @skinny_que caption a screen capture of the boy with the joke, "Financial aid: 'can you make a payment of $10,792 today'
Me:' don't disrespect me like that dog'." The post (shown below, left) received more than 10,000 retweets and 8,100 likes in two years.

The following year, on March 12th, Twitter^[4] user @WillDoNumbers tweeted the image with caption, "When the cashier put my $100 up to the light to see if it's Real in front of everybody." The post (shown below, center)received more than 3,200 retweets and 3,400 likes in a year and a half.

On May 12th, the Facebook ^[5] account @wearemitu posted the image under the caption "when you want to mexican food and someone says 'let's go taco bell.'" As of July 2018, the post received more than 10,000 reactions and 4,400 shares.
